120 Pieces in 52 Weeks

source

After much thought and consideration I have decided instead of designing a new collection I wanted to do something a little different.  I really enjoy the whole process of creating something new.  So instead of a Fall 2012 collection I am going to be working on items that I will design and make myself and sell them to you.

It would be a custom made to order piece.  I want each piece to be personal, handpicked and thought out.  I love the sewing part of the project and I missed out on it a when I was just taking all of my designs to the factories to produce.

Like my New Years Eve Dress I bought a vintage pattern, tweaked it and made it my own.  I will be doing this with some of my designs for 2 reasons.  One is that it will save on time to just make adjustments to the patterns rather than draft new ones each time. And two is that I love vintage style from the 20′s to the 70′s and I would love to re-create these designs using modern day fabrics.

As of right now the pieces will be made in my size and sold in my store piece by piece but if you would like something in a different size then I would be happy to discuss that further with you.

Something that I also love about this idea is that I don’t have to worry about minimums with fabric etc.  I can just buy what I like and what I see at the time.  Example: I just went to Mood today because they just got in a huge new shipment of Marc Jacobs fabrics.  I couldn’t resist and bought some great stuff that I can’t wait to make something with.

Here are some of the delicious fabrics I bought today at Mood from the Marc Jacobs line.

This a reversible poly.

I will also be adding some new tabs to my blog for more information.  Where I get my fabric and where do I buy my notions.  The places I go in the garment district, so if you would like to make something yourself you can go ahead check out their websites or stores.

I wanted to set a goal for myself and see how many pieces I could make this year.  I will not only be making clothing but also bags and other accessories. I will also have your knitwear staples that every girl should have in their wardrobe.  I have decided that I am going to try and reach a goal of 120 pieces in 52 weeks. That would be a little over 2 pieces a week.

So far this year I have made 4 running skirts for the race I just ran with my sister last week so I have 116 to go…..

I will post throughout the week to keep you updated on my progress!
